How to Add Your Business as a Location on Instagram Stories (and Why It's Missing)
If you can't find your business when adding a location sticker, the location simply hasn't been created yet. Here's where locations come from and how to make yours appear.

A customer takes a photo in your shop and wants to tag your location in their Story, but your business isn't in the list. Or you're trying to tag it yourself and the search comes back empty. This is very common, and it usually has one cause.
Why doesn't my location show up?
Instagram locations don't come from Instagram itself. They come from Facebook's location database. If your business isn't registered as a "place" on Facebook, it won't appear as a location on Instagram.
Having an address in your bio, a Google Maps listing or a business account doesn't create that place on its own. The location tag is a separate record.
Method 1: Create a new place with a Facebook check-in
This is the route most guides recommend:
- Open the Facebook app and tap "What's on your mind?"
- Tap Check in.
- Search for your business name. If it's not listed, tap "Add a new place".
- Enter the exact business name, choose the right category and add the full street address.
- Save and post.
Facebook's interface changes often, and "Add a new place" may not appear on every account. If you don't see it, try the second method.
Method 2: Add a physical address to your Facebook Page
If your business has a Facebook Page, complete its physical address in the Page settings. Pages with an address are matched to Facebook's place records.
- Use a category that fits a physical business (restaurant, salon, shop).
- Fill in the address, phone number and opening hours.
- Connect your Instagram business account to this Page.
How long does it take?
A newly created location usually becomes searchable on Instagram within 24–48 hours. Don't keep creating new places before then, or you'll end up with duplicates and customers will pick the wrong one.
Still missing? Check these
- Search the exact name you used on Facebook.
- Location services: make sure Instagram has location permission on your phone.
- Update the app: older versions can break location search.
- Real address only: Instagram doesn't allow locations that don't physically exist; fake places can be removed.
- If it's been more than 48 hours, report it through Instagram's help centre.
Adding the location sticker to a Story
- Open the Story camera, then take or upload a photo or video.
- Tap the sticker icon at the top.
- Choose Location and search for your business.
- Resize, recolour and position the sticker, then share.
A location sticker can't be edited after posting. If you picked the wrong place, delete the Story and post it again.
Why it matters
Tapping a location tag shows every public post and Story shared there. The more customers tag your business, the more nearby people discover you through that page, which makes it a free and powerful visibility source for local businesses.
